6.1 Introduction

The core entity that is communicated by this standard is the Party. A Party is any natural person or other animate being, or a legal person, an organisation or a machine capable of playing a role as an Agent. A Party may be real or imaginary (fictitious). This includes what is sometimes referred to as “public personas”. It means that, for instance, the human being called Marshall Bruce Mathers III may be represented by two Parties in a PieMessage: Marshall Mathers and Eminem.

This standard provides the ability to communicate, amongst other aspects, three core elements of metadata for a Party:

  • An Identifier (or Identifiers) of the Party;

  • A Name (or Names) of the Party; and

  • Relationships between Parties.
